Invasive Species Inspection

What is an Invasive Species Inspection?

Michigan homes and properties are often surrounded by woods, wetlands, or farmland — perfect conditions for invasive species to creep in.
Inside the Box checks for signs of common invaders like Asian beetles, emerald ash borer damage, invasive vines, and other pests or plants that can harm structures, landscaping, or trees.

Most Common Invasive Plants in Michigan

Based on the latest reports and tracking data:

Brown Marmorated Stink Bug – ~13,300… not a plant, but a bug that eats your roses and your patience.

Phragmites – The worst offender, with 66,793 reported occurrences. This tall, dense reed chokes wetlands and drains, wreaks havoc on property, and is a pain to remove.

Garlic Mustard – Over 20,000 sightings. Spreads through woods, overpowers native plants, smells like garlic if you crush it.

Autumn Olive – 17,400+ reports. A scrubby, berry-dumping shrub that grows fast, crowds out natives, and is nope to dig out.

Spotted Knapweed – ~16,300 reportings. A lousy weed that takes over lawns and landscapes.

This inspection is always included with every home inspection at no additional cost.
